Tips to handle Monday Blues

How many of us are having trouble to go to school/college /work on Monday morning? After an enjoyable and fun filled weekend, many of us will be thinking to get up and get ready to start our routine on Monday.

Why do we have the trouble especially on a Monday Morning?

What is Monday Blues?

 “The ‘Monday Blues’ describe a set of negative emotions that many people get at the beginning of the workweek if they’re not happy at work,” says Alexander Kjerulf, an international author and speaker on happiness at work.

 When we are happy and appreciated at the workplace then we will consider Monday as another day to show cast our skills. But if we are not satisfied or unhappy with our class/work then we will feel tough to start back the routine on the weekday.

Here are 11 simple and common ways to handle the Monday Blues:

 1. Identify the problem

 Find out what is troubling you at the work place. Try to understand the cause  and work on it to get peace of mind.

2. Prepare for Monday on Friday

Plan well in advance. Planning is a key here. You can try to complete possible tasks on Friday evening itself before signing off to make Monday morning easier.

3. Make a list of the things you’re excited about

Generally, it is our habit to look into the difficult tasks ahead and worry about its completion. Let’s turn this around. Let’s try changing the habit and start looking into the stuffs that make us interested. Upon completion of the interesting tasks, it will give a sense of satisfaction which will be a booster for us to proceed with the upcoming days of the week.

 4. Unplug for the weekend

In this technological world, it has become a common practice for us to check our emails, messages over the weekends. This makes us irritated on Monday since most of our weekend timings will be taken up by the thoughts around those email/messages. It is advised to leave the office work on Friday evening at the office itself and relax and rewind yourselves on weekend. This will help in focusing on the work on Monday with more energy.

 5. Get enough sleep and wake up early

Make a practice to sleep a little early on Sunday night and get up early on Monday. Having some dedicated ‘ME’ time on Monday morning definitely has a positive impact on the overall productivity of the week.

6. Dress for success

Our attire reflects our mood. Try to dress at your best on Mondays and in your favourite colour. These elegant colours will radiate and brighten the day and the mood.

 7. Be positive

Being Positive is the Mantra for success. Whatever the situation is, an optimistic approach towards it always helps in clearing the clutter and achieving success. Be positive on Monday with the work on the table and this attitude helps in completing it on time with quality.

8. Make someone else happy

It is good to have a habit of making someone happy every single day. The sense of happiness and smile on their face lightens up our mood. This will help in approaching every day as a new opportunity to give back something to the people around us which gives us a feel of completeness.

9. Keep your Monday schedule light

It is a good strategy to keep Mondays a little free. It is also a good idea to plan /schedule meetings on Tuesdays or Wednesdays so that you will have some time to work on it on Monday which reduces the anxiety on the weekend.

10. Have fun at work

Take some breaks, have chit chats, roam around the office. These small steps definitely help in starting a happy work week.

11. Have a post-work plan

 Though Monday is the first day of the workweek, it is not mandatory that it should be a serious day of work. It is good to have a leisure evening plan so that you will be looking forward to something that you relish and cherish.
